A mysterious art treasure of the 8th century The Book of Kells is a milestone of our western history. Its facsimile edition constitutes the biggest event in contemporary book production. Around 800, Irish monks glorified the New Testament in this Gospel Book which contains a total of 680 large-size pages whose decoration is among the most imaginative and elaborate known in western book illumination. It boasts outstanding symbolical power and mystical radiation. All but two of its pages are decorated with ornament and painting. This edition of the 1200-year-old manuscript has remained the most challenging achievement in terms of technical perfection and craftsmanship up to this day. The facsimile edition allows us to trace the roots of our common past.
